My Journey Has Begun

So this is my first attempt at being a "blogger" and I have no idea what I'm really doing. Please be patient as you follow my journey with me; I promise, my blog will be cooler to follow towards the end of the semester than it is right now. Thanks for taking this journey with me and I look forward to following many of you on your journeys as well.

So many new technology tools...

At the conference I'm at, today I learned about some other new social media and technology tools that I am going to be checking out over the next week.

  • Evernote and/or Onenote:  used to organize notes (which you can either scan in or take a picture of and import), pictures, files, voice notes, etc.  I guess you can share notes with others using this tool as well.  http://www.evernote.com/
  • Zotero: a online bookmarking and research tool used to gather and organize resources and sources researched online.  http://www.zotero.org/
  • RSS feeds which can "help save time reading websites: for more information on RSS go to http://www.commoncraft.com/video/rss
Also, last night I used Picnik for the first time to resize a picture to post in Moodle.  It took me a few tries to get it right (plus then the Internet went down and I wasn't able to actually post it last night), but I think I figured it out.  Thanks for the suggestion Helen! :)

  1. It sounds like you are picking up great ideas at this conference! Thanks for sharing these tools with us! I need to revisit Evernote because it was one of those apps that I downloaded some time back and then have forgotten to use -- eek! I find RSS feeds absolutely invaluable (I use Google Reader for these), because there is no way I could keep up with information from different sources (including our 8009 class blogs!) without this!

Way to go with Picnik and editing photos! :)

  2. Susan,

Evernote recently increased its features, adding the ability to record the meeting in addition to taking notes. Once recorded, just as you can do with your notes, you can store/share the audio file.

I did not like Evernote the first time I tried it. However, now that it has this new function, I am eager to try it, again.
